Pre-Season Welcome Sausage Sizzle - Friday 10th March 3pm - 4.30pm at Charles Riley Playground.
First Training Session.
Set the timer and take 5 minutes to do this challenge with your kids. Not only is it designed to be fun and a race against the clock but it provide a great opportunity to TRY. Trying is important, it’s our minds signal to the body to start and keep going.
The adage “Have a Go” is the backbone of Australian culture. I recently came across the story of an Australian inventor called Headlie Taylor who in 1911 in Henty, New South Wales set about building a machine that would harvest damaged crops. Such was his passion that he kept learning from his mistakes and only after he created three versions and spent over three years working on it did he solve his problem. He did not sell his first machine until 1916 with a design that has stood the test of time and influenced modern farming practices for over 100 years.
Too many times, kids and adults let their thoughts rule their heads and give up when things get hard. The first step is to tell ourselves we are going to try and not give up. A handy question if your child does is: “What is the worst thing that can happen?”
Newspaper tower challenge in 3 easy steps
Step 2: Let your child know the challenge will stop after 5 minutes. Start the timer and set your minds and hands to work.
Step 3: STOP when the timer goes off at the end of the 5 minutes. Kids don’t learn anything by changing the rules.
You can even measure and record the height and repeat it and challenge kids to compete against themselves to get better.
