8 February 2017
Once again I welcome those families new to our school community. I do hope you have made some social connections within the school. If not, this Friday evening’s “Welcoming Picnic” presents a excellent opportunity to do just that. I hope to see you there.
Our school has been a hive of activity this last week but we have enjoyed a smooth and organised start to the academic year. Certainly work on the building site is moving along with minimal disruption to school life. The site foreman made comment on how polite, friendly and well behaved our students are as they move past on their way to and from home.
The Ministries make a very real difference to life at OLG and we expect nothing less from this year's school seniors.
Today, the students of Years 4, 5 and 6 elected the House Leaders for the Year. They are:
Catering to the needs of all our students
The Sad and the Wonderful
With the convent gone we are pushed to the limit when it comes to free space.

It is imperative that you alter your child's class group on your online canteen profile. Also, once you place your online order, check your “active orders" section to ensure that your order has been captured correctly. We are having increasing numbers of children coming to canteen without orders being placed. This is causing distress for the children.
New Canteen Menu prices will be issued in the following weeks. If you would like to volunteer for canteen duty please contact Peta Taylor on the above number.
Any queries regarding all other canteen issues please contact Pip Kent on 0439 091300.

P & F News
Welcome back to the new school year which will be exciting both in the changes that are occurring around the school and the planned school community events being organised throughout the year. The first of these is this Friday for the Welcome Back Picnic with bouncy castle and kids entertainment included. Just bring your own picnic. No cost involved.
These events, whether they be social, educational, fundraising or just for fun create that sense of community that OLG is well known for. So please get involved where you can, help out where you can or just come along to a meeting to support. At the end of the day it benefits our children in more ways than one.
The first P&F committee meeting for the year is scheduled for Wednesday 22nd at 7:30pm. It would be great to see some new faces and always of course the old. This will be held in the Staff room as usual.
Some other reminders for your diaries:
For those that are yet to, please refer to previous school newsletters for instructions on downloading the OLG School App and navigating around.
Tip: You can quickly access the schools website, newsletters and calendar via the home screen of the App.
For any queries, suggestions or improvements please come along to one of the P&F Committee meetings or drop a quick email to the Executive Committee (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Looking forward to your support for 2017.
P&F Quiz Night: Save the Date, Friday 16th June. This is an amended date from the original Events Calendar.
Class Representatives Required
Every year we ask parents to consider nominating as Class Representative for their child's class. The role is to help build a strong community spirit by welcoming new families to the school, organising parent get-togethers and passing on information to and from parents via tiqbiz. In the past, two or more parents have shared the role and found this to work extremely well. It is also a great way to get to know everyone. If you would like to take on the role for your child's class please fill in the form placed on the noticeboard outside your child' s classroom. If you would like to know more about the position, please contact Linda D'Vaz 0411 125787.
