1 February 2017
Welcome back from what I hope was a fun and relaxing break with your family and children.
A special welcome to families new to OLG.
2017 should be another great year for everyone in our community if we all work to make it so.
Successful education and development of a child comes about through a strong Parent-Teacher partnership.
Each year we, as a school, set ourselves goals that cover spiritual, academic, pastoral and organisational aspects of school life. At the end of each year we look back on how we have done and generally feel a sense of satisfaction that OLG has gotten a little better over the year.
Parent - Teacher Evening
Year Four parents are warned to come prepared to comment on their children attending the musical "Mathilda". The classes will be studying the novel in Term One. The discounted price is around $70 per child.
Pupil Free Days 2017
Please contact Peta Taylor on 0419 260832 if you can help out.
It is imperative that you alter your child's class group on your online canteen profile. Also, once you place your online order, check your “active orders" section to ensure that your order has been captured correctly. We are having increasing numbers of children coming to canteen without orders being placed. This is causing distress for the children.
New Canteen Menu prices will be issued in the following weeks. If you would like to volunteer for canteen duty please contact Peta Taylor on the above number.
Any queries regarding all other canteen issues please contact Pip Kent on 0439 091300.
Currently there is a lot of wastage at OLG. Click on the link to find out what we intend to do about it.

Medical Emergency Response Plans
A number of our students have in place action plans to deal with their potential health needs. These plans need to be updated each year to ensure they are current.
If your child is asthmatic, anaphylactic or has other potentially life-threatening health issues please call into the school and review the currency of our information.
Food Allergy Alert
Please be aware that OLG is an 'ALLERGY AWARE' school. There are a quite a few children at the school who have a severe intolerance, that is a life-threatening anaphylactic reaction to some food, including nuts. They must have an epi-pen, (adrenaline needle), close to them at all times. If your child/ren happens to have had food before class that may have contained nuts or traces of nuts, such as peanut butter, Nutella or even fruit/muesli bars or many types of cereals, can you PLEASE ensure that you wash their hands and faces. The Allergic children can have a reaction that could kill them simply by hugging someone who has had contact with nuts.
It is extremely important that no extra food is brought into the classroom by you or your children (including siblings on roster) unless it is checked by the teacher. This includes snacks and treats they may carry in their hands, bags or pockets as so many foods contain traces of nuts. This also goes for food you may provide for special occasions such as birthday cakes.
When packing your child/ren's lunch boxes could you please ensure that if any of the food labels state that the food may contain traces of nut, that you let the teachers know, as then the allergic children can be steered clear of the food and the area surrounding, and also to ensure that the child's hands and face can be washed after eating.
Our sincere condolences go to Casey (6B) and Chloe (4B) Brennan on the passing of their grandfather. Also, our condolences go to Anika (6G) and Ben (3G) MacNaughton on the passing of their grandmother.
Class Representatives Required
Every year we ask parents to consider nominating as Class Representative for their child's class. The role is to help build a strong community spirit by welcoming new families to the school, organising parent get-togethers and passing on information to and from parents via tiqbiz. In the past, two or more parents have shared the role and found this to work extremely well. It is also a great way to get to know everyone. If you would like to take on the role for your child's class please fill in the form placed on the noticeboard outside your child' s classroom. If you would like to know more about the position, please contact Linda D'Vaz 0411 125787.
Family Information Sheets were sent home today. Please check them carefully and return them to the office even if there are no amendments to be made.
We will be running a Montessori Playgroup beginning in Term 1 2017. Each session lasts 1.5 hours and will run on Friday mornings. Sessions will be based on developing their Faith, Physical and Social Skills.
