Thank you, Lord of the Universe,
for all the gifts you always offer me.
Thank you for all I receive: for the water that washes me,
for the clothes I wear, for the food that sustains me.
For my home and my family, and for my friends.
For the knowledge gained from trying hard and for the work of each day.
For the good mornings that have dawned upon me,
for the light that shines upon me,
and for the handshakes and hugs that link me to others.
For the time you have given me, for the life you have offered me,
and for the blessings of each new day.
Thank you for being with me, Lord, for listening to me,
And for taking me seriously.

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Reporting to Parents
The basics of our approach to reporting is to treat parents as partners who have a need for full information. Our semester report process is comprised of a standard written report giving an A-E grade in each learning area. To this we add an insert that expands on the work covered in Maths and Literacy and round these off with a parent interview.
Interviews can be booked online and will take place next week.

By and large, the children at OLG are simply wonderful. Relief staff and visitors almost always comment on their friendliness and manners and the sense of calm and order that prevails. That said, from time to time our children make poor choices that impact on others e.g. bullying. The school needs to know of such incidents so that it can intervene early. I ask that parents let the class teacher know by the next day if there is suspected bullying occurring – do not leave it for a few weeks.

Buildings Works
The roof trusses of Building One were put in place today, much to the delight of the Kindy children who watched the crane through their viewing hole in the fence.
The form work for the upstairs floor of Building Two is being installed.
The slab of Building Three has been poured.
The retaining wall along the south side is almost complete. The amount of ‘new’ land that this adds to the playground has to be seen to be appreciated.

Semester Two

  • Mrs Sarah Tangifua has begun her maternity leave. The baby is due 7th July. Sarah will return to OLG next year. In the meantime, Ms Caitlin Manea will take charge of 3G.
  • Anne Burke, goes on LSL for Semester Two.
  • Mrs Jacquie Hardwicke will take on 6G fulltime (up from 2 days per week).
  • Mrs Fiona Caldwell will teach on Wednesdays in 6B, currently taught by Mrs Hardwicke.
  • Mrs Teresa Wandek (PPB) will take on both Assistant Principal roles and therefore have four (4) days out of the classroom. Mrs Sputore will take up the extra days resulting in her teaching PPB four days a week and Mrs Wandek one day per week.
  • Simone Hampton (PreK) is to have an operation and will be away until about Week 3 of next term. Mrs Meston will fill in during this time.
  • Sr Joseph goes on 'Home Leave’ to Poland from 4 July and returns early September.

"Materialism: Needs our control not surrender".
"No matter what our children say they want and need, a secure sense of a loving family is of greater value than a roomful of possessions. A healthy society raises its children to be responsible citizens rather than just consumers. Creating healthy, happy families means spending time together rather than spending money."

God Bless

IMPORTANT NOTICE - Please read

There are an increasing number of online orders that are not being captured due to parents not confirming their orders. Once you have placed an order please check your confirmation email or your "active orders" section to ensure your order has been placed, as we are getting numerous children at canteen quite upset that they haven't received their lunches.

Important - New Item

LOL carbonated drinks have been discontinued nationally. The Canteen Association have recommended we replace these drinks with the NEW JUICE BOMB DRINKS.

Juice Bomb use 99.9% real fruit juice - they contain no preservatives, no added sugar and no artificial colours.

The new drinks will be fazed in as our current LOL stocks run out.

The new flavours will be Apple Blackcurrant, Apple Raspberry and Vanilla Lime.

As stocks are being renewed you may find your order is replaced with a different flavour.

Thank you.

Any queries regarding all other canteen issues please contact Pip Kent on 0439 091300.

As part of the Year Five Design and Technology studies, the Year Five Gold students designed and created model sof machines that perform a purpose. The students recycled materials from around the home to construct creative and eye-catching machines. These machines perform tasks from completing homework to teleporting travellers to outer space.

The Year 5G students displayed and explained their machines to their Pre-Primary buddies and to other classes in the MPA.

OLG Run for Fun commences Term 2

“OLG Run for Fun” is a free running club where kids of all ages and fitness levels can come together before school to run and exercise in a positive and supportive environment. Parents and grandparents are also welcome to come along for fitness and quality time with their children.

We all know running is a great way to get fit, but it offers so much more. Kids who exercise in the morning are generally more engaged and focussed during lesson time. Running clubs enable kids to build friendships and have fun. Running builds healthy hearts and minds and brings joy to children.

The Running Club is run by volunteer parents each Tuesday and Thursday morning during school terms and will commence on Tuesday 2nd May 2017. It will include some warm up activities and games and there will be a couple of running courses, of different lengths, around Charles Riley Reserve to suit different ages and fitness levels. There will be no free breakfast or awards - it’s just for participation and fun.

As the Running Club is run by parents, students in Year 3 or below must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to ensure adequate supervision. A permission slip will need to be completed before your child can participate. Permission slips will be available for signing at the first session your child chooses to attend.

Days:         Every Tuesday and Thursday morning (starting 2nd May 2017)
Start time: 7.40am to 8.15am (volunteer parents will then walk kids to school)
Where:       Meet at the south east corner of the football clubrooms at Charles Riley Reserve
What to bring: Drink bottle, sneakers and energy. Eat breakfast at home first or bring something to eat at school after the run.
Cost:          Free
More Info:  Contact Damian Hicks on 0419 930087 or email dhicks@iinet.net.au
Volunteers: Bendotti, Nelson, Curtis and Hicks families. More parent volunteers required, please contact Damian if you would like to be involved.
