 Dear Lord
We ask you to strengthen us so that we can live out the Gospel values and show respect to each other, especially the most vulnerable.
Lord hear our prayer.

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Children truly are a joy and a wonder of God's creation. Their smiles, optimistic outlook, openness to new encounters with others their age and the way they embrace life gives one great hope for the future and make them fun to be around.

Quinn, our youngest grandchild, had his fourth birthday on the weekend. Totally spoilt with the number and variety of presents from aunts, grandparents and parents, he appeared to derive the greatest pleasure from unwrapping the gifts and then playing with a small, plastic "Blaze" toy, pretty much to the exclusion of all those others that had been chosen with such meticulous attention to their age-appropriate, educational value! But what fun he had with Blaze!

While not cheap by any measure, a day at the South Perth Zoo should be in every family's annual calendar - but you do need your running shoes on to keep up as the kids go from one exhibit to the next. Quinn's favourite was the old LandDrover 'parked' beside the path through the African Savannah area and the playground area where Blaze could speed down the slide and get buried in the sand. I imagine/hope that something of the educational value of the outing was absorbed even if it wasn't entirely obvious at the time.

Semester Reports
At OLG our semester reporting is a little different to the norm. The report itself provides feedback on the child's progress against the WA Curriculum standards. A grade of 'C' indicates the child's 'performance' is in line with the curriculum expectations; a 'B' indicates above expectation performance while a 'D' indicates performance below expectations for a student at that year level. Work that receives a 'C' grade at OLG should receive a 'C' grade at every other school in WA as the work is graded against the SCASA standards and is therefore independent of the characteristics of a school's enrolment.

Our semester reports also include an insert which provides additional information on the child's performance in a range of aspects of RE, English and Mathematics.
Finally, after receipt of the report, parents are invited to attend a face-to-face interview with their child's teacher at which even more in-depth feedback is given and questions answered. If requested, parents also have the opportunity to arrange another, longer interview to discuss their child's progress.

Our process is intended to fully inform parents of their child's school progress and to engage parents in supporting their child's learning.

Online booking of interviews will be available in the coming weeks.

Stage 8a Report
•    The roof trusses will go on Building One this fortnight.
•    The formwork for the upper floor of Building Two will start this fortnight.
•    The retaining wall on the south side of where Building Three (PP on the ground floor, Year Five on the first floor and the lift) will be constructed is now complete.
•    The concrete slab of Building Three should be laid this fortnight.
•    About half of the parking bays which have been fenced off will be opened up for use by the public. For each bay that has been fenced off the City has has charged the school $10 per day, so the removal of the fencing will be a welcome saving.

"We need to elevate our thought processes and install mental pictures of success and achievement. In this way we can look down on our problems instead of looking up to them."

"By changing the inner attitude of our mind, we can change the outer expression of our life. Attitude is contagious. Positive attitude gives energy to you and to those around you."

"There are two ways to look at life, positively or negatively. The choice is ours and there always is a choice provided we take charge of our attitude and don’t permit someone else to choose it for us. Our attitude towards life determines life’s attitude towards us. A positive attitude is the outward expression of a mind that dwells on positive matters; 'As a person thinks in his heart, so he is'. Proverbs 23:7"

God bless

Chris Kenworthy

Parish News

It's hard to believe that our Mini Vinnies Youth Group has only been together for two months. Our wonderful group of children have decided to focus on the following projects for the remainder of this year: Sleepout, Shopfront, Winter Appeal and Rangala. Along with these projects we will also be assisting our North Beach SVDP conference with any needs that come up.
How can our parish help?

We are taking donations of blankets, jackets, scarves and beanies- new or used, as long as they are clean and in good condition.

On the 8th July our Mini Vinnies group will be holding a sleepout in the parish centre to raise money and awareness for homelessness. Over that weekend you will see our Mini Vinnies children rugged up outside the parish asking for donations to sponsor them as a group for their sleepout. Every dollar makes a difference.

Currently SVDP is in desperate need of pots and pans- new or used.
If you are able to make a donation towards any of the above projects please bring into parish centre or contact Assunta: 0417 951 579.

Office Volunteer Wanted

Our Lady of Grace Parish is seeking a volunteer/s to help out in the office on a weekly basis. If you are available for 2-3 hours on a Wednesday or Thursday beginning 1st July and would like further information, please email Christine at or ring 0411 273 572.

Grandparents’ Day Date Change: Please be advised that Grandparents’ Day will be held on Friday 1/9 (not 25/8 as was previously communicated). Can you please advise your families to Save The Date.

Cake stall Rep Required for 2017: Unfortunately both Kath and I need to hand over the roll of cake stall coordinator this year..... we require one or two parents to take over the coordinating of the cake stalls, usually run once a fortnight. It is a great opportunity to assist all classrooms as funds raised go directly to the teachers of those year groups. This is a fun and low key role that also enables you to meet new parents in our school community. If you are interested in having a chat and getting more info please call either Katherine Lamont (0417183060) or Adele Swan (0413126644).

OLG Run for Fun commences Term 2

“OLG Run for Fun” is a free running club where kids of all ages and fitness levels can come together before school to run and exercise in a positive and supportive environment. Parents and grandparents are also welcome to come along for fitness and quality time with their children.

We all know running is a great way to get fit, but it offers so much more. Kids who exercise in the morning are generally more engaged and focussed during lesson time. Running clubs enable kids to build friendships and have fun. Running builds healthy hearts and minds and brings joy to children.

The Running Club is run by volunteer parents each Tuesday and Thursday morning during school terms and will commence on Tuesday 2nd May 2017. It will include some warm up activities and games and there will be a couple of running courses, of different lengths, around Charles Riley Reserve to suit different ages and fitness levels. There will be no free breakfast or awards - it’s just for participation and fun.

As the Running Club is run by parents, students in Year 3 or below must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to ensure adequate supervision. A permission slip will need to be completed before your child can participate. Permission slips will be available for signing at the first session your child chooses to attend.

Days:         Every Tuesday and Thursday morning (starting 2nd May 2017)
Start time: 7.40am to 8.15am (volunteer parents will then walk kids to school)
Where:       Meet at the south east corner of the football clubrooms at Charles Riley Reserve
What to bring: Drink bottle, sneakers and energy. Eat breakfast at home first or bring something to eat at school after the run.
Cost:          Free
More Info:  Contact Damian Hicks on 0419 930087 or email
Volunteers: Bendotti, Nelson, Curtis and Hicks families. More parent volunteers required, please contact Damian if you would like to be involved.
