God help us to change ourselves and to change our world.
Help us to be messengers of truth and goodness so people may
See beyond us to you, the source of life.

Dear Parents/Guardians

Thank you all for your assistance in making the beginning of Term Two a smooth transition from holiday to school. The children are, for the most part, arriving ready and with time to prepare for the school day and they look fabulous in their winter uniforms.
Often, returning to school after a holiday break can be an anxious time for some.
"Anxiety is about what is unknown or new, so children of any age are worried about things that are unfamiliar or that they haven’t mastered yet. For young children everything is new: the building, the teacher, the routines, the wake up time, the longer school day. Same thing happens even with children who have a year or two of school under their belt. That’s because until they get there to dig in and see first hand, they’ve only got their imagination to rely on, and the imagination is known to fill in the blanks with some pretty scary (and unreliable) answers. Make sure to normalise for your child that everyone feels nervous before school, even some of the teachers! Here’s an opportunity to teach your child about the differences between worry thoughts and wise thoughts. Are the worries real? How can they be managed? In terms of back to school fears specifically, most children settle in to the transition to the school year within about a month. If your child is becoming more upset in the mornings, or refusing to go to school, listen to your child’s specific fears and concerns and then check in with the teacher. The teacher may have some clues about what is hard for your child. It may be that some good teamwork and sharing of information can help create a sense of safety and continuity for your child and help him over the hurdle. Often children will pick up on our fears and concerns and worry that something will happen. Being late, not having done homework, not having time to play and settle prior to the school day or not being organised will affect their confidence and resilience. " Tamar Chansky, Ph.D., 2012

Enjoy the term, be kind to each other and yourselves

God bless

Teresa Wandek

  P & F News

 FlexiBuzz (formerly TiqBiz)

Tiqbiz has now been officially rebranded to FlexiBuzz. You will notice changes to the name, logo and other content on the app, desktop site and website over the coming week as changes are completed.

On Friday 29th April 2017 an email was sent to all users notifying them of the change. Please refer back to that communication.

The change is a result of the recent purchase of Tiqbiz by InLoop Pty Ltd, an Australian tech company with leading brands including Flexischools.

FlexiBuzz will retain all of the features that were available with Tiqbiz.

To ensure you have the most up-to-date version of the app it is recommended to run the app update as soon as possible.

FlexiBuzz Usage
The success of the App has been awesome and has been very functional tool in the communication arena. However its success has also highlighted a pertinent fact that there could be too many notifications / reminders being pushed through. Some of the points that I have noticed include:
• too many reminders of the same event;
• double-ups where multiple people send through similar notifications;
• unnecessary notifications;
• notifications being sent at unsociable hours...etc
So now that the App is well used, we will be drafting a set of guidelines for it usage and will be distributed to all those that have editor and admin rights to the App. This way we will hopefully obtain some consistency and reduced 'traffic' on its usage as the last thing we want is for the school community to turn the App off.

The turn out at the last three P&F Meetings has been great especially at the last one being the first day back of the second term. Remember, everyone is welcome.

Some other reminders for your diaries:
• P&F Committee meeting - Wednesday 24th May at 7:30pm. All welcome.
• Mothers Day morning Tea and gift stall. (11th and 12th May)
• Junior and Senior Disco's (Friday 19th May)
• Quiz Night - Friday 26th May (Get your tables organised and purchase tickets now).
Helpers are always wanted so even if you can spare 1 hour please send an email to the Executive Committee ( or Di Guttridge, Events Coordinator ( Otherwise just catchup with one of us in the school grounds.

P&F Fundraising

Over the last couple of years, the majority of the funds raised by the P&F have helped our children by providing various resources across the school, such as iPads, musical instruments, arts and crafts, robotics, etc. However now with the building program well underway, there is the opportunity for the P&F to raise funds that will contribute to the overall MasterPlan of the school. As such it is important that you as the school community support the fundraising events that are held.

The big one for this year is the Quiz night (26th May). Surveys in the past have shown that this is the most popular wanted event, so please get your tickets ASAP and support your P&F, your children and your school.

For any queries, suggestions or improvements please come along to one of the P&F Committee meetings or drop a quick email to the Executive Committee (

 OLG Run for Fun commences Term 2

“OLG Run for Fun” is a free running club where kids of all ages and fitness levels can come together before school to run and exercise in a positive and supportive environment. Parents and grandparents are also welcome to come along for fitness and quality time with their children.

We all know running is a great way to get fit, but it offers so much more. Kids who exercise in the morning are generally more engaged and focussed during lesson time. Running clubs enable kids to build friendships and have fun. Running builds healthy hearts and minds and brings joy to children.

The Running Club is run by volunteer parents each Tuesday and Thursday morning during school terms and will commence on Tuesday 2nd May 2017. It will include some warm up activities and games and there will be a couple of running courses, of different lengths, around Charles Riley Reserve to suit different ages and fitness levels. There will be no free breakfast or awards - it’s just for participation and fun.

As the Running Club is run by parents, students in Year 3 or below must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to ensure adequate supervision. A permission slip will need to be completed before your child can participate. Permission slips will be available for signing at the first session your child chooses to attend.

Days:         Every Tuesday and Thursday morning (starting 2nd May 2017)
Start time: 7.40am to 8.15am (volunteer parents will then walk kids to school)
Where:       Meet at the south east corner of the football clubrooms at Charles Riley Reserve
What to bring: Drink bottle, sneakers and energy. Eat breakfast at home first or bring something to eat at school after the run.
Cost:          Free
More Info:  Contact Damian Hicks on 0419 930087 or email
Volunteers: Bendotti, Nelson, Curtis and Hicks families. More parent volunteers required, please contact Damian if you would like to be involved.

The body achieves what the mind believes.
